RELOCATION OF GREEN TURTLE EGGS (Chelonia mydas) AT LENGAH ISLAND, LOH WAU RESORT, KOMODO NATIONAL PARK, NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR

Abstract

Sea Turtle is one of the protected fauna because of its endangered population. These marine reptiles are able to migrate over great distances along the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and Southeast Asia. In the world there are 7 types of sea turtles and 6 of them are found in Indonesia. The relocation is carried out with the aim of increasing the success rate of hatchlings to hatch. This is because there are still cases of theft of turtle eggs by people who are not responsible for eating. In addition, this activity is carried out to prevent overlapping nests for turtle brooders to lay eggs. This is because the area on Pulau Lengah Beach is quite narrow, and there is a risk of overlapping nests. Data collection is done at the Komodo National Park Office, located in West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Meanwhile, the relocation of turtle eggs was carried out at the Loh Wau Resort, Komodo Island, Komodo National Park. In addition to carrying out turtle egg relocation activities, the author also carries out other activities carried out at the Komodo National Park Hall. These activities include land patrols, marine patrols, identification of mangroves, mangrove nurseries and coral transplantation.
