Composition of Dominant Non-target Species on The Fishing Activities of Blue Swimming Crab
Main Article Content
Abstract
The east coastal of lampung is one the potential coastal for blue swimming crab fishing in Indonesia. The fishing activity of blue swimming crab produces non-target species. The dominant non-target species that cannot be utilized which can become a problem in the aquatic environment later. This is the basis for the need for a study on the composition of the dominant non-target species was caught at the fishing activity of blue swimming crab in east coastal of Lampung. The research was conducted at the landing sites of blue swimming crab, namely Kuala Teladas, Sungai Burung, Seputih, Wako, Sekopong, Kuala Penet and Labuhan Maringgai. The data needed for the analysis of species composition was data on catches, both blue swimming crab which are the target species as well as fish and non-fish resources which are non-target species. The results of this study indicate that the majority of the dominant non-target species caught belong to the discarded species group. This study indicated that the dominant non-target species caught in high numbers could create new problems in the environment. This means that mitigation efforts are needed to reduce non-target species.
